Does FPL Offer a Pool Pump Rebate Right Now?

As of September 2026, FPL’s residential programs page lists rebates for new energy-efficient air conditioning and ceiling insulation, but not for pool pumps. What About FPL On Call?

FPL On Call is a different kind of program. Instead of a rebate, FPL pays you a small monthly credit for letting them switch certain equipment off for short periods when demand is high. For pool pumps, FPL says the program pays $1.50 a month, year-round, and the pump can be switched off for up to four hours a day.

One catch: FPL On Call only accepts single-speed pool pumps. It is a way to earn a small credit on an older pump, not a reward for upgrading to a variable speed one.

Why Pump Efficiency Matters More in 2026

FPL’s current rate increase is the largest in the company’s history. It took effect on January 1, 2026, and more increases are scheduled through 2029. Your pool pump runs for hours every day, so it is one of the easiest places in your home to cut electricity use.

How a Variable Speed Pump Saves Energy

A single-speed pump runs at full power the whole time it is on. A variable speed pump can slow down for everyday filtering and only speed up when it needs to, such as when the heater is running or the pool is being cleaned. Running slower uses far less power, and it is quieter and easier on the motor.

Replacing an Old Pump? Federal Rules Already Point to Variable Speed

Since July 19, 2021, most new pool filter pumps sold in the U.S. have to meet a federal energy-efficiency standard from the Department of Energy. Single-speed pumps above a certain size cannot meet it, so in most cases, when an older pump fails, the replacement will be a variable speed model.

If your pump is getting old, planning the upgrade now means you choose the timing instead of the breakdown choosing it for you.
