Commercial Pool Heating Case Study

Upgrading an HOA Pool with Heat and Cool Pumps in Valencia Pointe, Boynton Beach

Florida Pool Heating partnered with the Valencia Pointe community in Boynton Beach to upgrade its commercial pool heating system with a more advanced heat pump solution. This project illustrates how our team helped a large residential community shift from heat-only systems to dual-function heat and cool pool pumps — ensuring total water temperature control year-round.

Client & Project Background

Community: Valencia Pointe
Location: Boynton Beach, FLClient Type: Commercial / Homeowners Association (HOA)
Management: The Castle Group

Valencia Pointe is a well-established community managed by The Castle Group, one of Florida’s premier property management firms. The HOA had previously partnered with Florida Pool Heating in 2022 to replace nine electric pool heaters throughout the property. In 2024, they reached out again—this time with a request to upgrade six of those heaters serving the main pool area to models capable of both heating and cooling the water, offering more versatility during Florida’s hot summers.

Project Objectives

The goals of the Valencia Pointe team were:

  • Upgrade six heat-only units installed in 2022 with models that also provide pool cooling
  • Ensure a seamless changeout using same-form-factor units for a quick installation
  • Preserve system consistency across their pool infrastructure
  • Minimize disruption to residents and pool operations during the replacement process

The management team valued a quick turnaround and requested that the units look identical to the ones previously installed, helping avoid re-permitting delays or confusion.

The Solution: Dual-Function Heat and Cool Pool Pumps

Florida Pool Heating recommended and installed six AquaCal SQ166R heat and cool pool heat pumps, which offer both powerful heating and active cooling capabilities. These high-performance commercial pool heat pumps are ideal for maintaining a consistent water temperature in large community pools like the one at Valencia Pointe.

Why AquaCal SQ166R?

  • 126,000 BTUs of power — ideal for larger commercial pools
  • Heat and cool capability — perfect for Florida’s variable climate
  • Whisper-quiet operation — excellent for residential communities
  • Same housing and connections as the 2022 heat-only units — allowing for fast, direct swap with minimal adjustments
  • Energy-efficient design — optimized for lower operational costs and long-term savings

Because Florida Pool Heating had already performed the original 2022 heater installation, the team was able to execute this 2024 project with full familiarity of the layout and system requirements.

Project Details

  • Initial Contact: January 2024
  • Approval Date: November 2024
  • Installation Date: November 18, 2024
  • Equipment Installed: Six (6) AquaCal SQ166R electric heat and cool pumps (126,000 BTU each)
  • Delivery & Logistics:
    • All six heaters were delivered directly from the manufacturer
    • A trailer was used to remove four of the old units
    • Two 2022 units were retained by the client to use for parts

The installation was completed efficiently with minimal disruption to the community, thanks to the use of equipment that matched the previous units’ footprint and specifications.

Results & Benefits

Year-Round Temperature Control

The HOA can now maintain a consistent and comfortable pool temperature in every season, whether that means heating the water in winter or cooling it during Florida’s scorching summer months.

Seamless Upgrade with No Operational Downtime

By using the same-style heat pumps and relying on the familiarity from the previous install, Florida Pool Heating ensured a fast changeout that kept residents swimming without long delays.

Trusted Partnership with Property Management

This was the second major project completed at Valencia Pointe. Florida Pool Heating has also performed personal work for The Castle Group’s leadership team and continues to serve other commercial properties under their management.

Ongoing Maintenance & Follow-Up

In April 2025, Florida Pool Heating returned to Valencia Pointe for a full maintenance inspection of all nine heat pump units (including the original three from 2022). The inspection confirmed that every system was operating at peak efficiency — extending equipment lifespan and reducing the risk of mid-season breakdowns.

Client Relationship

Valencia Pointe and The Castle Group are long-standing Florida Pool Heating clients. The community management team has praised the quality of equipment, smooth installation processes, and responsive service. The continued partnership reflects the trust built over multiple successful projects.
